عود ūﻌd A s. m. 1. Wood, timber. 2. A staff, a stick. 3. The wood aloes. (In dakh. this word, however, seems used for gum benzoin). 4. A lute or harp. ¶ aﻌud, s. m. 1. Returning. 2. A man of abilities, experience, and prudence.

عنقريب aﻌn-ḳarīb A (عن prepos. and قريب Near) adv. Near, soon, shortly, nearly, almost.

عشق iﻌshḳ A s. m. Love. عشقباز iﻌshḳ-bāz, A gallant, amorous. عشقبازي iﻌshḳ-bāz-ī, s. f. Gal- lantry, amour, amorousness. عشق پيچا iﻌshḳ- pechā, s. m. The name of a flower (Ipomœa quamoclit) American jasmine. عشق پيشه iﻌshḳ- pesha, Love-practiser, lover. عشق هي iﻌshḳ hai, an exclamation of praise; excellent! well done! praise to! Mīr says:-- عشق انکي عقل کو هي جو ما سواهماري ناچيز جانتي هين نابود جانتي هين iﻌshḳ unkī aﻌḳl ko hai, jo mā siwā hamāre nāchīz jānte haiṅ, nābūd jānte haiṅ, Excellent is their understanding who esteem every thing besides me worthless and null.

عفص aﻌfṣ A s. m. Gall (both the tree and the nut).

عنين iﻌnen A. s. (dakh.) Reins of a bridle: see عنان iﻌnān.

عيوب uﻌyūb A plur. (of عيب) Vices, defects, &c.

عريان uﻌryān A (Heb. ) adj. Naked. A.P. عريان تني uﻌryān-tan-ī, s. f. Nakedness.

عسر aﻌsar A adj. Difficult. عسرالعبور aﻌsaru-l-uﻌbūr, Difficult to be passed.

علامت aﻌlāmat A s. f. A mark, sign, symptom, coat of arms, ensign, emblem. (Plur. علامات).

عارضي āﻌriẓ-ī A adj. Accidental, adventitious, ca- sual.
