علي aﻌlī A adj. High, eminent, noble; a proper name, especially of Muḥammadʼs son-in-law. ¶ aﻌlạ̄, adv. On, upon, according to, above, to, near. علي الاتصال aﻌlạ-l-ittiṣāl, Continually, without intermission. علي الاطلاق aﻌlạ-l-it̤lāḳ, Absolutely, solely. علي الخصوص aﻌlạ-l-ḵẖuṣūṣ, In particular. علي الدوام aﻌlạ-d-dawām, In per- petuity, for ever. علي الرغم aﻌlạ-r-rag̠ẖm, In spite, in opposition. علي الصباح aﻌlạ-ṣ-ṣabāḥ, In the morning. علي هذا القياس aﻌlạ hāẕa-l-ḳiyās, On this measure, in like manner. عليه aﻌlaihi, On him. عليه الرحمه aﻌlaihi-r-raḥma, On him (be) the mercy (of God). عليه السلام aﻌlaihi-s- salām, Blessing on him! عليـﮩم aﻌlaihim, On them. ¶ aﻌlạ̄, s. عنوان uﻌnwān A or iﻌnwān (from عنن To come be- fore, to present oneʼs self) s. m. 1. The title of a book. 2. That whereby any thing is known. 3. That which is understood by any thing. 4. Mode, manner.

عزلت uﻌzlat A s. f. Retirement, retiring. عزلت گزيده uﻌzlat-guzīda, or عزلت گزين uﻌzlat-guzīn, A recluse, an hermit.

عيش aﻌish A s. m. Pleasure, delight. عيش گاه aﻌish-gāh, s. f. Place of merriment. عيش محل aﻌish-maḥall, Banqueting-house.

عليم aﻌlīm A adj. Wise, learned.

عزازيل aﻌzāzīl A n. prop. Name of a devil or fal- len angel.

عالميان āﻌlam-iyān A. s. m. People, men, inha- bitants of the world.

عورت aﻌurat A (Heb. from Heb. To blind, to strip naked, or To be naked) s. f. 1. The pudenda of man or woman, that which is concealed through modesty. 2. (in Persian and Hindī) A woman, a wife.

عفت iﻌffat A (from عفّ) s. f. Purity, chastity, continence, virtue, abstinence, modesty.

عيادت iﻌyādat A s. f. Visiting of the sick.
