عار āﻌr A (from عري Heb. To be naked) s. f. m. 1. Bashfulness, modesty. 2. Ignominy, dis- grace, shame, reproach.

عارف āﻌrif A (part. act. of عرف) 1. adj. Wise, sagacious, ingenious, pious, devout. 2. s. m. A holy man. (Plur. عرفا uﻌrafā or عارفين āﻌri- fīn). A.P. عارفانه āﻌrif-āna, adv. Wisely, acutely, piously, devoutly. adj. Wise, pious.

عافيت āﻌfiyat A (from عفو Syr. To flourish) s. f. Health, safety.

عديل aﻌdīl A 1. adj. Alike, equal. 2. Just, equitable. 3. s. m. A distributer of justice.

عمر uﻌmr A s. f. Age, lifetime, period of life. ¶ uﻌmar, n. prop. The name of the second sove- reign in succession from Muḥammad.

عازم āﻌzim A part. act. (of عزم) Applying the mind to an undertaking, intending, determining, being resolved on, bound (somewhere).

عفيفه aﻌfīfa A adj. fem. Chaste, pure (a woman).

عورت aﻌurat A (Heb. from Heb. To blind, to strip naked, or To be naked) s. f. 1. The pudenda of man or woman, that which is concealed through modesty. 2. (in Persian and Hindī) A woman, a wife.

عنوان uﻌnwān A or iﻌnwān (from عنن To come be- fore, to present oneʼs self) s. m. 1. The title of a book. 2. That whereby any thing is known. 3. That which is understood by any thing. 4. Mode, manner.

عرش aﻌrsh A s. m. 1. A roof. 2. A throne. 3. The ninth heaven, where the throne of God is.
