عقيقه aﻌḳīḳa A s. m. 1. The hair upon new born infants. 2. The sixth day after childbirth, or a feast given on that day.

عجيب aﻌjīb A (from عجب) adj. Wonderful, sur- prising, rare, astonishing, admirable.

عشوه iﻌshwa, aﻌshwa A or uﻌshwa (from عشا To be covered, hidden, darkened, blind at night) s. m. 1. An obscure, concealed, dangerous affair. 2. The beginning of darkness at night. 3. A fire seen from a distance at night. 4. (met. but most used in Persian and Hindī) Coquetry, ogling, blandishments, amorous play- fulness. عشوه گر aﻌshwa-gar, A coquette. عشوه گري aﻌshwa-gar-ī, s. f. عبير aﻌbīr A s. m. Saffron, ambergris, powder of various colours used in the هولي holī.

عديل aﻌdīl A 1. adj. Alike, equal. 2. Just, equitable. 3. s. m. A distributer of justice.

عجول aﻌjūl A adj. Hasty, quick.

عذرا aﻌẕrā A s. f. 1. A virgin. 2. Name of the celebrated mistress of Wāmiḳ.

عکس aﻌks A s. m. 1. Reflection, inversion. 2. A shadow or reflected image (as in a glass). 3. The contrary, reverse, opposite. 4. Spite, op- position.

عام āﻌmm A (from عمّ Heb. To cover, to contain; and, hence, to be common) adj. 1. Com- mon, publick, general, plebeian. 2. The vulgar, the common people. خاص وعام ḵẖāss-o-āﻌmm, High and low, peculiar and popular.

عنقا aﻌnḳā (lit. A Long-necked, from عنق Heb. The neck, a collar) s. m. 1. The phœnix, a fabulous bird. 2. (met.) adj. Rare, wonderful, curious. See سيمرغ sī-murg̠ẖ.
