افیون afyūn : افیون afyūn A s. f. Opium, the inspissated juice of the Papaver somniferum. (The word may be derived from افن To deprive of reason or pru- dence (Gol.); or, rather from Gr. ʼopos, Juice, especially of the Laserpitium (Hippoc.), whence ʼopion (Dioscor.); or, from the Sans. अहिफेन ahiphen, comp.of अहि Serpent, and फेन Froth, foam.
