عا جز āﻌjiz A (part. act. of عجز ) adj. Unable, weak, humble, exhausted, dejected, hopeless. A.P. عاجزانه āﻌjiz-āna, adv. Weakly, humbly.

عيب aﻌib A s. m. Fault, defect, a vice, blemish, infirmity, sin, disgrace, infamy. (Plur. عيوب). عيب پوش aﻌib-posh, Concealer of fault or de- fect. عيب پوشي aﻌib-posh-ī, s. f. Concealment of fault. عيب جو aﻌib-jo, adj. Censorious, ma- levolent, malicious, malignant; caviller, carper. عيب جوي aﻌib-jo-ī, s. f. Censoriousness, criti- cism, cavil. عيب چيني aﻌib-chīn-ī, s. f. Picking out faults, criticism. عيب گو aﻌib-go, One who finds fault, a slanderer. عيب گيري aﻌib- gīr-ī, s. f. Finding fault. عيب لگانا aﻌib-lagā- nā, To defame, asperse.

عوام aﻌwāmm A s. plur. (of عامّة) The vulgar, po- pulace, common people. عوام الناس aﻌwāmmu- n-nās, The vulgar, common people.

عباسي aﻌbbās-ī A adj. Red (colour). s. f. Name of a flower. See عباس aﻌbbās or گل عباس gul- i-aﻌbbās under گل gul.

عفريت iﻌfrīt A (from عفر To roll in the dust) s. m. 1. Any thing frightful or horrible. 2. A giant, demon, spectre. (Plur. عفاريت).

عدل aﻌdl A s. m. Justice, equity, rectitude. عدل کرنا aﻌdl karnā, To do justice. عدل گستري aﻌdl- gustar-ī, s. f. The dispensing, distribution, or administration of justice.

عمده uﻌmda A (from عمد) 1. adj. Great, noble. 2. s. m. A grandee, a support, a pillar, a prop, confidence, reliance, trust.

عشوه iﻌshwa, aﻌshwa A or uﻌshwa (from عشا To be covered, hidden, darkened, blind at night) s. m. 1. An obscure, concealed, dangerous affair. 2. The beginning of darkness at night. 3. A fire seen from a distance at night. 4. (met. but most used in Persian and Hindī) Coquetry, ogling, blandishments, amorous play- fulness. عشوه گر aﻌshwa-gar, A coquette. عشوه گري aﻌshwa-gar-ī, s. f. Coquetry.

عقده uﻌḳda A (from عقد) s. m. 1. A knot, an ex- crescence (especially, at the joints, or where bones have been broken), a node. 2. An impe- diment in speech. 3. Perplexed affairs, en- tangled things, confused words. عقده کشا uﻌḳda- kushā, Resolver of perplexities or difficulties. عقده کساٴي uﻌḳda-kushā-ī, s. f. The untying or opening of knots or difficulties.

عموم aﻌmūm A adj. Common, general, universal.
