افغان afg̠ẖān : افغان afg̠ẖān P 1. s. m. See فغان fig̠ẖān. 2. n. prop. A people, called also Paṭhāns, inha- biting the hilly country to the N. W. of Lāhaur. In their history, they pretend to derive their origin, as well as name, from Afg̠ẖān, whom they account a grandson of Malik Tālūt (king Saul). As to religion, they are Mahometans, notwithstanding the claim they set up to a Jew- ish extraction. (Plur. Arab. افاغنه afāg̠ẖina or Pers. افغانان afg̠ẖānān).

اشٿانگ अष्टांग अष्ट Eight, and अंग Mem- ber ash̤ṭāng S. Eight parts of man, viz. the hands, feet, thighs, breast, eyes, head, words and mind. اشٿانگ پرنام ash̤ṭāng-praṇām, s. m. Prostration, in salutation or adoration, so as to touch the ground with those eight parts.
