صلحا ṣulaḥā A s. plur. (of صالح) Pious, upright men.

صيد ṣaid A s. f. Game, prey, animal pursued, fished for, &c. hunting, chase. صيد افگن ṣaid- afgan or صيد فگن ṣaid-figan, Killer of game. صيد افگني ṣaid-afgan-ī, Killing of game. صيد انداز يا باز ṣaid-andāz or -bāz, A sportsman. صيد بند ṣaid-band, A taker or binder of game. صيد بندي ṣaid-band-ī, s. f. Taking or binding of game. صيد گاه ṣaid-gāh, s. f. Place for game.

صداقت ṣadāḳat A (from صدق Heb. and Ch. Was just, true, sincere) s. f. 1. Sincerity, can- dour. 2. Friendship. 3. Truth.

صفير ṣafīr A (from صفر To whistle) s. f. 1. Sound, whistling, a hissing noise, blowing, singing (as, of a bird). 2. A sapphire.

صره ṣurra A (from صرّ Heb. To tie) s. m. A purse.

صبي ṣabī A (from Ch. To will, to desire, to love; the affections being strongest in youth) s. m. A youth. (Plur. صبيان).

صرع ṣarﻌ A s. f. The epilepsy. A. صرف (Heb. To pour out for purification, to purify, to examine metals) ṣirf, adv. Purely,

ص ṣād called صاد مہمله and صادغيرمنقوطه the four- teenth letter of the Arabic alphabet, does not properly occur in the Persian language; but, in a few words it has, in modern times, been substituted for the original س to distinguish them from others of a different signification; as, in صد, originally سد One hundred; and in شصت originally شست Sixty; to prevent their being confounded with سد A wall, and شست An aim. It has no corresponding let- ter in the Sanskrit alphabet. In Persia and
