شير sher P s. m. A tiger, a lion. شيرآبي sher- i-ābī, s. m. An alligator. شيرقالي sher-i-ḳālī, (the effigy of a tiger) A person only fit to be looked at, a braggart. شيرگردون sher-i-gardūn, s. m. 1. The sun. 2. The sign Leo. ¶ shīr, s. m. Milk. شيرخوار shīr-ḵẖẉār or شيرخواره shīr-ḵẖẉāra, A suckling, an infant. شيرخوارگي shīr-ḵẖẉāra-gī, s. f. Sucking, living on milk. شيرخورده shīr-ḵẖụrda, A suckling. شيردار shīr-dār, adj. Milch, giving much milk. شيرشکر shīr-shakar, 1. A kind of silk-cloth. 2. Affec- tion. شيرگرم shīr-garm, Milk-warm, lukewarm. شيرمال shīr-māl, s. f. Bread made with milk. شيرمست shīr-mast, A fine plump suckling, a fatling. شيرني shīr-i-nai, Juice of the sugar cane.

شرارت sharārat A (from شرر) s. f. Wickedness, vice, mischief, depravity, villany.

شاه آلو shāh-ālū P s. m. A cherry.

شہره shuhra A s. m. Fame, renown, reputation, divulging, publishing, report, rumour. شہره آفاق shuhra-e-āfāḳ, or شہره عالم shuhra-e-āﻌlam, Renowned, known over the world.

شوميت shūm-iyat A s. f. Stinginess, niggardliness.

شيخ shaiḵẖ A (vulg. sheḵẖ) s. m. An old man, a venerable old man; a chief, a prelate, a title taken by the descendants of the prophet, and given to proselytes to Muhammadanism. شيخًا shaiḵẖaṉ, adv. In the manner of a chief, au- thoritatively. شيخ ڐونڐو shaiḵẖ-ḍoṅḍū, A figure dressed up by way of sport or charm. شيخنا shaiḵẖanā, MyLord! my preceptor! my patron!

شيو shiv शिव S̱. n. prop. The Deity in the character of Producer and Destroyer, or Time personified. See سو siva and مہاديو mahādev.

شبد शब्द shabd S s. m. Sound, word, voice. See سبد sabd. شبد شاستر शब्दशास्त्र shabd- shāstr, Etymology, the science of grammatical inflection. شبد بيدهي shabd-bedhī (शब्दवेधी Piercing by sound) One who has the skill of shooting an arrow, &c. upon an unseen person, on hearing a sound made by him: (an arrow) that pierces by sound, or that hits what is merely heard.
