ساکهي sākhī साक्षी S̱. s. m. An evidence, a witness, an eyewitness.

سلو sallū H s. m. A thong, narrow slips of leather with which shoes are stitched.

ساله sāl-a P (in compos.) A termination affixed to numbers, to denote so many years old; as دوساله do-sāla, Two years old; پنجساله panj- sāla, Five years old; صد ساله ṣad-sāla, Of a hundred years.

سہانا suhānā S̱. (from शोभन) 1. adj. Agreeable, pleasant, charming. 2. v. n. To be agreeable, to please, to be liked or approved of.

ساونتي sāwant-ī S̱. s. f. Valour, heroism, bravery.

سنپت sanpat S̱. s. f. See سمپت.

سونا sonā S̱. 1. (शयन) v. n. To sleep; (met.) to die. 2. or in Braj saunā (स्वर्ण) s. m. Gold. سوني کا نوالا sone kā nawālā, An expen- sive banquet, a delicious morsel.

سرمکهہ sarmukh S̱. adv. corrupt. of سنمکهہ san- mukh, q. v.

سوز soz P (from سوختن) s. m. (dakh. f.) 1. Burning. 2. Vexation, heart-burning. 3. Ardour. 4. A stanza of a mars̤iya or elegiack poem. 5. part. (in compos.) Burning. سوزگداز soz-gudāz, s. m. 1. Burning and melting. 2. An impas- sioned style in poetry.

سيپاره sī-pāra P (سي Thirty, and پاره Piece, di- vision, viz. a thirty piece) 1. s. m. Each one of the thirty sections, or the thirty sections, into which the ḳurʼān is divided. 2. adj. Of thirty pieces. See سپاره sipāra.
