سلانا silānā S̱. (causal of سينا sīnā, q. v.) v. a. To cause to sew or stitch.

سامع sāmiﻌ A (part. act. of سمع Heb. and Ch. To hear) s. m. A hearer. (Plur. سامعين).

سختي saḵẖt-ī P s. f. 1. Hardness, firmness, harshness, intenseness, vehemence, severity, as- perity, atrocity, grievance, hardship. 2. Obdu- racy. 3. Stinginess, indigence. 4. Distress, difficulty. سختي کوپينا saḵẖtī ko pīnā, (dakh.) See برداشت کرنا bar-dāsht karnā under برداشت.

ساله sāl-a P (in compos.) A termination affixed to numbers, to denote so many years old; as دوساله do-sāla, Two years old; پنجساله panj- sāla, Five years old; صد ساله ṣad-sāla, Of a hundred years.

سنه sana A (Heb. ) s. A year. See سنت sanat.

سموسه samosa P. (corrupt. for سنبوسه) s. m. 1. A kind of small pastry of minced meat of a triangular form. 2. A shawl, or handkerchief, &c. doubled diagonally to throw over the shoul- ders. سموسه ورقي samosa-waraḳī, A species of the dish named سموسه.

سنسناهٿ sansanāhaṭ A s. f. 1. An imitative sound, ringing, jingling. 2. Fainting.

سنبهلنا sambhalnā S̱. v. n. See سمبهلنا.

سينکا sīnkā H s. m. A groove.

سنبل sumbul P s. m. 1. Spikenard (to which the locks of a mistress are compared). سنبل خطاٴي sumbul-i-ḵẖat̤āʼī, Angelica. سنبل هندي sumbul-i-hindī, s. m. The spikenard (Valeriana jatamansi. Roxb.). 2. The hyacinth. سنبلستان sumbul- istān, Hyacinth-garden or -bed.
