رت ऋतु r̤itu S (vulg. rut) s. f. Season, weather. The Hindūs divide the year into six seasons; viz. वसंत vasanta, ग्रीष्म grīsh̤ma, वर्षा varsh̤ā, शरद् sarad, हिम hima, and शिशिर sisira.

رن रण raṇ S s. m. Battle, war, combat. رنبهوم रणभुमि raṇ-bhūmi, Field of battle. رن کهندل raṇ-khandal, s. (dakh. i. q. مقتل) Place of slaughter (?).

رحيم raḥīm A (from رحم) adj. Merciful. (An epithet of God and the prophet Muhammad).

رفيق rafīḳ A (from رفق See رفاقت) s. m. f. A friend, ally, associate, companion, comrade, ac- complice, adherent. (Pers. plur. رفيقان).

رکهاٴي rukhā-ī S̱. (from روکها) s. f. 1. Plainness, dryness. 2. Unkind looks, indifference.

رومال rū-māl P (رو Face, and part. act. of ماليدن To rub) s. m. A handkerchief, a towel.

راگ राग rāg S s. m. (in dakh. f.) 1. A mode in musick (there being six in number), musick, song, tune. 2. Anger, passion. 3. Love. راگ چهانا rāg chhānā, v. n. To be in concert. راگ رنگ rāg-rang, s. m. Musick. راگ ساگر rāg- sāgar, s. m. A song composed of many rāgs or musical modes. راگ مالا rāg-mālā, s. f. The name of a treatise on musick (being nothing more than a collection of pictures, exhibiting the traditional history of the primary and sub- ordinate modes, and the subjects appropriated to each).

روشناٴي roshnāʼī P s. f. 1. Light, splendour. 2. Ink.

رحمان raḥmān A (from رحم) adj. Merciful, for- giving. (An epithet of God).

راجي rājī A (part. act. of رجا) adj. Hoping, hopeful.
