رجال rijāl A s. pl. (of رجل) Men. رجال الغيب rijālu-l-g̠ẖaib (by the Hindūs called योगिनी yoginī) s. m. An invisible being which moves in a circular orbit round the world: on the 1st, 9th, 16th, and 24th days of a lunar month, his station is in the east: on the 3d, 11th, 18th, and 26th, in the south-east: on the 5th, 13th, 20th, and 28th, in the south: on the 4th, 12th, 19th, and 27th, in the south-west: on the 6th, 14th, 21st, and 29th, in the west: on the 7th, 15th, and 22d, in the north-west: on the 2d, 10th, 17th, and 25th, in the north: and, on the 8th, 23d, and 30th, in the north-east. His influence on each day is especially exerted during nine ghaṛis, or three hours thirty six minutes, at the close of that tith or lunar day; and, in that interval, it is unfortunate to begin a journey towards the station of this being, or in such a direction as to place him on the right hand.

روپونت rūp-want S (Sans. plur. रूपवन्तः) adj. Well-shaped, handsome, beautiful.

رونپنا rompnā रोपण S̱. v. a. To plant, to transplant.

رباعي rubāʼīﻌ A (from ربع Four) s. f. A quatrain, a stanza of four lines, a tetrastick. (Plur. رباعيات rubāʼ-īﻌyāt).

رام چندر रामचन्द्र Rāma-chandra S n. prop. Son of Dasaratha, and conqueror of Lankā or Ceylon. He was the seventh avatār; when the deity descended for the purpose of destroying Rāvaṇa, who, having obtained (for his devo- tion) a promise from Brahmā that he should not suffer death by any of the usual means, was become the tyrant and pest of mankind. The Devatās came in the shape of monkeys, as Rāvaṇa had gained no promise of safety from them; hence, Hanumāna was Rāmaʼs general. Rāmachandraʼs motherʼs name was Kausalyā. His younger brother Bharata was son of Ke- kayī, who was the cause of Rāmaʼs going to the desert to perform devotions, on the banks of the Pampā nadī, insisting that her son should reign the fourteen years that Rāma em- ployed in the devotion. It was while performing his devotion (or during his stay in the fo- rests) in company with Laksh̤maṇa (his brother by Sumitrā) that, while he was absent hunting, Rāvaṇa appeared as a beggar, and enticed away Sītā; which gave rise to the war detailed in the Rāmāyaṇa. Sītā was daughter of Rājā Janaka, who had promised to give her to any person who could break a certain bow; which

روندهنا rūndhnā S̱. (रोधन r. रुध Confine) 1. v. a. To surround, to enclose (as, with a hedge). 2. To watch. 3. v. n. To be res- trained. 4. To be confounded, astonished.

رخساره ruḵẖ-sāra P s. m. The cheek, face.

روت rūwat H s. f. (dakh.) 1. Beauty, symme- try: see رونق raunaḳ. 2. Regard, attention to the wishes: see پاس خاطر under پاس or see ملاحظه.
