روشن roshan P or raushan, adj. Light, splendid, bright, shining, luminous, manifest, conspicuous. روشن چوکي roshan chaukī, s. f. 1. A kind of serenade, with pipes and small tabours, round the apartment of a great man when he retires to rest. 2. The same kind of musick used on other occasions. روشن دان roshan-dān, s. m. A small hole for admitting light. روشن دل roshan-dil, adj. Enlightened in mind. روشن دماغ roshan-damāg̠ẖ, Snuff. روشن راي roshan- rāʼe, adj. Of enlightened understanding. روشن ضمير roshan-ẓamīr, adj. Enlightened in mind.

رواسا ro-ās-ā S̱. (see رواس ro-ās) adj. Inclined to cry, vexed, displeased, afflicted.

راوٿي rāwṭī H s. f. A kind of tent (without boots).

رسوتهـ rasūth H s. f. A kind of collyrium, ex- tracted from the root of the Amomum anthorhizum: Roxb.

رم ram P (or a. ramm) s. m. Flight, elopement. رم خور ram-ḵẖụr, Taking to flight. رم خورده ram-ḵẖụrda, Taken to flight. رم رهنا ram rahnā, To elope, to remain concealed. رم کرنا ram karnā, To flee, to fly or run away.

ردر रुद्र rudr S or rudra, s. m. A name or form of Siva.

رموز rumūz A (or رموزات) s. plur. of رمز ramz, q. v.

راج دهاني राजधानी rāj-dhānī S s. f. The me- tropolis, seat of empire, royal residence.

ر re called راي مـﮩمله and راي غيرمنقوطه is the tenth letter in the Arabic and twelfth in the Per- sian alphabet, corresponding to र in Sanskrit. Its pronunciation is that of the English r when fully sounded. In denoting numbers by the letters of the Arabic alphabet, it stands for 200. It is interchangeable with ل and د; as, يدسل for يرسل he will send; دجره for دجله the river Tigris; اروند for الوند the name of a mountain. Sometimes ي is used for it; as, قيراط for قرّاط the name of a weight. In Hindī, besides ल it is also interchanged with ड. In almanacks, it is the astronomical character for the moon: and, in dates, it denotes the month ربيع الاوّل.

رهگرا rah-girā P (from رهگير rah-gīr) adj. Tending towards, taking the way (of).
