اسپند ispand P s. m. A seed burnt at marriages to drive away evil spirits: it is, also, burnt as a charm for the like purpose some days after a child is born, particularly at the door; and when a child goes out or comes home. It is often mixed on those occasions with mustard seed, and hence has been confounded with the latter (خردل).

انگا angā H s. f. A maid whose business it is to hold, watch and amuse a child; a kind of nurse.

افتادگي uftāda-gī P s. f. A falling, tumbling.

آشوب āshob P or āshūb, s. m. 1. Tumult, cla- mour. 2. Terrour. 3. Misfortune. 4. Storm, tempest. 5. An impostor. آشوبگهہ āshob-gah, Place of tumult, &c.

امیري amīr-ī A s. f. Sovereignty, sway, lord- ship, dignity of امیر amīr.

اوليٰٰ aulạ̄ A adj. compar. (of ولي) Better, best.

اسرافیل isrāfīl A s. m. 1. The name of an angel who, it is said, will sound the last trumpet at the resurrection. 2. A seraph.
