دهوني dhūnī S̱. (from धूम) s. f. 1. Persevering. 2. Smoke. 3. A fire lighted by a Hindū faḳīr, over which he sits, imbibing the smoke, by way of penance. It is often practised by them, in the manner of dharnā, to extort compliance with their demands. Hence دهوني دينا dhūnī denā, To dun, to importune: to smoke. دهوني لگاني dhūnī lagānī, To insist obstinately, or to persevere in a demand. 4. Fumigation by way of exorcising one possessed; or, as a medical application. دهوني لينا dhūnī lenā, To inhale smoke, or undergo fumigation.

دين दीन dīn S adj. Poor, needy, indigent; humble. دين ديال दीनदयालु dīn-dayāl, Merciful to the poor, دين بندهو दीनबंधु dīn- bandhu, The friend of the poor, and دينناتهـ दिननाथ dīna-nāth, Lord of the poor, are epithets of the Deity.

دفله dafla P s. m. A smaller tambourin.

دني din-ī S̱. (from دن) adj. Aged (generally ap- plied to animals).

دوخت doḵẖt P (from دوختن) s. f. Sewing, a stitch, seam. دوخت کرنا doḵẖt karnā, To sew.

دونا dūnā द्विगुण S̱. adj. Double, twofold.

دس दिश् dis S s. f. Side, quarter, point (of the compass). دساکرنا disā karnā, To travel.

دلال dallāl A (adj. superl. from دلالت) s. m. A broker, a salesman.

دوزخي dozaḵẖ-ī P adj. 1. Hellish, infernal, damn- ed. 2. Glutton.
