آتشستان ātash-istān P s. f. The region of fire, a place where fire abounds; (hence the word is applied to) a hot fire of cannon or small arms in battle; a large fire, a funeral pile.

انگيا angiyā S̱. (from अंग Body) s. f. m. Bodice, stays.

اجل ajal A s. f. The term of life, fate, death, the hour of death, the predestined time of death, a stated time, delay, respite, period for the pay- ment of a debt. اجل رسیده ajal rasīda, Over- taken by fate. اجل گرفته ajal-girifta, Seized by fate, on the point of death, in a situation that leaves no hopes of life, in the jaws of death.

اٿي aṭṭi H s. f. A hank or bundle of thread; a cant word for a turban.

ارتهي अर्थी arth-ī S adj. Self-interested, de- signing.

افراط ifrāt̤ A (inf. iv. of فرط) s. m. f. Excess, su- perfluity, abundance. افراط اخلاط ifrāt̤-i-aḵẖlāt̤ or افراط خون ifrāt̤-i-ḵẖūn, Plethora.

آمدورفت āmad o raft P s. f. Coming and going, ingress and egress, intercourse.

ارناٴي arunāʼī अरुणता S̱. s. f. A dark red colour. See under ارن aruṇ.

آهني āhan-ī P adj. Of iron, iron, made of iron. آهنين پنجه āhanīṅ- panja, adj. Iron-handed, strong, powerful.

اپ उप upa S prep. Near, by, by the side of, with; secondary to. The opposite of दूर्.
