حرير ḥarīr A (from حرّ) s. m. Silk-cloth.

حذف ḥaẕf A s. m. Taking away, ejecting, cutting off a letter or syllable of a word, apo- cope, elision. حذف کرنا ḥaẕf-karnā, To omit, contract, reject, cut off or drop (a letter, &c.).

حشم ḥasham A s. m. Train, equipage, suite.

حبابي ḥubāb-ī A. adj. Of the bubble, covered with bubbles, bubble-like: s. (in compos.) Bubbling.

حکام ḥukkām A s. plur. (of حاکم) Governours, rulers, commanders.

حشو ḥasho A (from حشا) s. m. 1. Stuffing a pil- low, cushion, bed, &c. also, whatever it may be stuffed with. 2. People of the meanest condition. 3. Small camels. حشومنـﮩ‍ا ḥasho min- hā, 1. Subtraction, deduction. 2. The quantity deducted.

حيران ḥairān A (from حيرت) adj. Confounded, astonished, amazed, perplexed, disturbed, fa- tigued. حيران کرنا ḥairān karnā, To astonish, amaze, perplex, discompose, &c.

حجاز ḥijāz A (from حجز To restrain, to intervene, to separate) s. m. 1. Mecca and the adjacent country, Arabia Petræa. (Arabia is by some divided into two parts only; viz. Yaman and Ḥijāz: others make of it five divisions; namely, Yaman, Tihāma, Najd, Aﻌrūẓ and Ḥijāz. Ḥijāz is the chain of mountains extending from Yaman to Syria; and has this name from intervening between Najd and Tihāma). 2. Name of one of the three principal Persian modes of musick (the other two being اسفـﮩ‍ان isfahān and عراق iﻌrāḳ).

حوا ḥawwā A (Heb. , from حيّ Heb. To live; "because she was the mother of all living," Gen. iii. 20.) n. prop. Eve, the mother of mankind.

حقايق ḥaḳāʼịḳ A s. (plur. of حقيقت) Truths, narrations, &c.
