حمامي ḥammām-ī A s. m. A keeper of a bath or an attendant at a bath.

حدت ḥiddat A s. f. 1. The edge of a sword. 2. Keenness, acuteness, acrimony, passion, ve- hemence, impetuosity, poignancy, virulence.

حکاک ḥakkāk A (adj. superl. of حکّ) s. m. A cutter and polisher of precious stones.

حشرات ḥasharāt A s. plur. (of حشرة) 1. The buzzing noise of a crowd. 2. Reptiles, insects, animalcules. حشرات الارض ḥasharātu-l-arẓ, Reptiles, insects.

حديث ḥadīs̤ A (from حدث) s. m. f. 1. A his- tory, a tradition. 2. The traditional sayings of Muhammad. حديث کرنا ḥadīs̤ karnā, To for- swear, to abjure, to renounce.

حراف ḥarrāf A adj. (superl. from حرفت) 1. Ingenious, clever. 2. Pleasant, facetious.

حالات ḥālāt A s. f. plur. (of حالت) States, conditions, circumstances, cases.

حرام ḥarām A (from حرم Heb. ) adj. Un- lawful, forbidden, prohibited, excluded, sacred, wrong. حرام رکهنا ḥarām rakhnā, To prohibit. حرام خور ḥarām-ḵẖor or حرام خوار ḥarām- khẉār, s. m. One who lives on the wages of iniquity. حرام زاده ḥarām-zāda, adj. 1. Illegiti- mate, base-born, bastard. 2. s. m. A wicked

حزين ḥazīn A (from حزن) adj. Sad, sorrowful, afflicted, melancholy, grieved.

حاجي ḥājī A (part. act. from حجّ Heb. He turned round, danced, celebrated a festival; pe- culiarly, performed the pilgrimage to Mecca) s. m. A pilgrim to Mecca. حاجي الحرمين ḥājiyu-l-ḥaramain, A pilgrim to both Mecca and Medīna. (Plur. حجاج).
