حايط ḥāʼịt̤ A s. A wall.

حضر ḥaẓar A s. m. A fixed residence, home, resting, remaining in a place, presence.

حدوث ḥudūs̤ A s. m. Novelty, the being new or recent, invention.

حمد ḥamd A s. f. Praise. حمد کرنا ḥamd kar- nā, To praise or bless (God).

حال ḥāl A (from حال Heb. Turned, passed, changed) s. m. 1. State, condition, case. 2. Business, affair, matter, circumstance. 3. Pre- sent time, the present. 4. Ecstacy. (Plur. احوال aḥwāl). حال آنا ḥāl ānā, To be in- spired, to be thrown into ecstacies. حال انکه ḥāl ānki, adv. Whereas, now that, since, though, yet, however, even, although, notwith- standing. حال پرسي ḥāl-purs-ī, s. f. حيرتي ḥairat-ī A. adj. Astonished.

حکيم ḥakīm A (from حکمت) adj. used substan- tively, A sage, a philosopher, a physician. A. P. حکيمانه ḥakīm-āna, adj. Physician-like, sage-like, philosophical.

حقير ḥaḳīr A (from حقارت) adj. 1. Contemptible. 2. Thin, lean. 3. Vile. حقيرجاننا ḥaḳīr jān- nā, To contemn, to despise. A.P. حقيري ḥaḳīr-ī, s. f. Contemptibleness.

حيض ḥaiẓ A s. f. The menses. ولد الحيض wa- ladu-l-ḥaiẓ, A term of reproach.

حيرت ḥairat A s. f. Stupor and perturbation of mind, astonishment, amazement. حيرت افزا ḥairat-afzā or حيرت فزا ḥairat-fazā, Astonishing. حيرت زده ḥairat-zada, Struck with asto- nishment, thunderstruck, aghast, amazed. حيرت مآب ḥairat-maʼāb, adj. Astonished.
