حلبه ḥulba A s. The plant fenugreek. (In Hin- dī ميتهي).

حامل ḥāmil A (part. act. of حمل Heb. ) 1. s. m. A carrier, porter, bearer. 2. adj. f. Pregnant (a woman). حامل متن ḥāmil-i-matan, A commentary rehearsing, or annexed to, the text.

حيوانيت ḥaiwān-iyat A s. f. Beastliness, bes- tiality, brutality.

حيوان ḥaiwān A (from حيّ) s. m. An animal, a beast, brute. (Plur. حيوانات).

حجر ḥajar A s. m. A stone. (Plur. احجار aḥjār). حجرتان ḥajratān, Gold and silver. حجرالاسود ḥa- jaru-l-aswad, s. m. The black stone in the tem- ple of Mecca. حجراليـﮩود ḥajaru-l-yahūd, s. m. A calcareous stone used in medicine, jewʼs-stone, resembling an olive or acorn, found in Palestine. (Helmintholithus judaicus: Lin. Helmintholi- thus echini b. a. Gmel.).

حاجي ḥājī A (part. act. from حجّ Heb. He turned round, danced, celebrated a festival; pe- culiarly, performed the pilgrimage to Mecca) s. m. A pilgrim to Mecca. حاجي الحرمين ḥājiyu-l-ḥaramain, A pilgrim to both Mecca and Medīna. (Plur. حجاج).

حيات ḥayāt A (from حيّ) s. f. Life. حيات تازه ḥayāt-i-tāza, New life, regeneration (used to ex- press recovery from severe illness, the pleasure derived from meeting with a friend, &c.).

حقنه ḥuḳna A (from حقن) s. m. A syringe, a squirt, a clyster-pipe, a clyster.

حوزه ḥauza A (Heb. from حاز Heb. To collect, to accumulate, to possess) s. m. A tract, side, part, middle.

حلقي ḥalḳ-ī A adj. Guttural (letters, viz. ح خ ه ء ع غ).
