جريب jarīb A s. f. 1. A land measure. 2. A corn measure (of 384 mudds or about 768 lbs.). جريب کرنا jarīb karnā, To make a survey (of lands). جريب کش jarīb-kash, s. m. A mea- surer or surveyor of land. جريب کشي jārīb- kash-ī, s. f. Mensuration (of land), the office of a land-surveyor.

جگديس जगदीश jagad-īs S s. m. (Lord of the world) An epithet of Vish̤ṇu.

جهوٿها jhūṭhā S̱. (जुष्ट or उच्छिष्ट) adj. 1. Liar, false. 2. (among Hindūs) That which has touched food and is thereby defiled. 3. Offal, refuse, left (food); s. m. Leavings of food. جهوٿاجهاٿا jhūṭā jhāṭā, s. m. Offals, left food. جهوٿهاچاٿنا jhūṭhā chāṭnā, To eat leavings, to be very wretched. جهوٿهي نپوچهنا jhūṭhī na pūchhnā, To refuse even common civility.

جاگير jā-gīr P s. f. Land given by government as a reward for services, or as a fee; a pension (in land), a fief. جاگيردار jāgīr-dār, s. m. The holder of a fee or jāgīr, a feoffee.

جهڙ jhaṛ H 1. s. f. Heavy rain. 2. s. f. m. A kind of lock. ¶ jhuṛ, s. m. A bush, bramble. See جهوڙ jhūṛ, sign. 3.

جوشانده joshānda P s. m. A decoction.

جهمکڙا jhamakṛā H s. m. Splendour.

جناب janāb A s. f. 1. Side, brink, margin. 2. Majesty, highness, excellency. جناب عالي janāb-i-āﻌlī, Your majesty, your or his excel- lency, the most high. 3. Vestibule, threshold.

جوالامکهـ jwālā-mukh S̱. (from ज्वालामुखी A title of the goddess Devī) s. f. A volcano.

جگتا jagtā जाग्रत् S̱. adj. Awake.
