جيوت jīwat S̱. (r. जीव) 1. part. Living, alive. 2. See جيوٿ jīwaṭ.

جانچنا jānchnā H v. a. To examine, to inquire into, to ascertain, to try, to prove, to assay.

جارنون jārnauṅ S̱. v. a. (in Braj) To burn, kindle, &c. See جارنا jārnā.

جولگ jau-lag S̱. adv. Until, as long as. S̱. جون 1. jaun (for यःयद् &c.) pron. rel. Who, what, which: see جو jo. 2. joṅ or jauṅ (for यथा or यदा) adv. As, when. جون تون joṅ toṅ, In some way. جون تون يا تيون کريا کي joṅ- toṅ or tyoṅ-ḳar or -ke, adv. In any way, by some means, somehow or other, as it could be done. جون کا تون joṅ kā toṅ, As originally, as it was, as in fact, as in reality, unaltered. H. جون 1. jūṅ, s. f. A louse. جون منـﮩ‍ا jūṅ-muṅh- ā, adj. Smooth-faced, hypocritical. (lit. Small- mouthed). 2. jūn or jaun, s. m. Time.

جهوسي jhūsī H s. f. Name of a town near Ilāhā- bād.

جراحت jarāḥat A (correctly jiraḥat) s. f. A wound, a sore.

جعفري jaﻌfar-ī A s. f. 1. A kind of cupola. 2. A sort of screen (the interstices of the frame being lozenged). Lattice-work (corrupt. of ضفيره). 3. The purest kind of gold. 4. The name of a yellow flower (called also گل اشرفي Linum trigynum).

جهاما jhāmā झामक S̱. s. m. Pumice-stone, bricks burnt to cinder. See جهانوان jhāṅwāṅ.

جگيسر jaggesar S̱. or jagneshwar (यज्ञेश्वर) s. m. A name of Vish̤ṇu and of Siva.

جهجنا jhijnā H v. n. (dakh. i. q. لاغرهونا) To be or become lean or emaciated.
