آسرباد āsirbād आशीर्वाद S̱. s. m. Benedic- tion, blessing.

اشردها अश्रद्धा अ and श्रद्धा Desire a-shrad- dhā S. s. f. Aversion, disgust, loathing, contempt.

بديارتهي विद्यार्थी विद्या Science, and अर्थी Desirous bidyārthī S. or vidyārthī, s. m. A stu- dent.

سر sir शिरः S̱. s. m. The head, the top. سراٿهاتي هي پامال هوجانا sir uṭhāte hī pāmāl ho- jānā, To be crushed in the commencement of oneʼs undertaking. سراٿهانا sir uṭhānā, To re- bel, to rise up against one. سرپپولنا بهيجا کهانا sīr papolnā bhejā khānā, To shew kindness ex- ternally and harbour enmity in oneʼs breast. سرپرچڙهانا sir par chaṛhānā, 1. To spoil (a child, &c.). 2. To raise an inferiour above oneʼs self. 3. To shew respect. سرپرخاک ڐالنا sir par ḵẖāk ḍālnā, To lament. سرپرستي کرنا sir- parastī karnā, To protect, to aid. سرپهرانا sir phirānā, To labour in vain. سرپهيرنا sir phernā, To revolt from obedience. سرپيٿنا sir pīṭnā, To lament. سرتوڙنا sir toṛnā, To subdue. سرتول sir-tol, adj. (dakh.) Equal, of equal im- portance: see هم سر ham-sar. سرچڙها sir- chaṛhā, adj. Proud, haughty. سرچڙهانا sir chaṛhānā, 1. To exalt. 2. To assume, to be arrogant. 3. To shew respect. سرچڙهکي مرنا sir chaṛhke marnā, To lay the guilt of oneʼs blood at the door of another. سردهرنا sir dhar- nā, To be obedient. سرڐلانا sir ḍulānā or سردهنا sir dhunnā, To shake the head from afflic- tion. سرڐوب sir-ḍūb, adj. Perfectly wet. سرسي سرواه sir se sirwāh, The conducting of an affair depends on the leader or head: to this is sometimes added, جب بيل پهوٿي راٴي راٴي هوگئي jab bel phūṭī rāʼī rāʼī ho gaʼī, When the bel bursts it falls all about like mustard seed. سرسي کفن باندهنا sir se kafan bāndhnā, To engage in a desperate undertaking, giving up all regard to oneʼs own safety. سرکاڙهنا sir kāṛhnā, v. n. To become conspicuous. سرکٿا sir kaṭā, Beheaded, decapitated. سرکوقدم کرنا sir ko ḳadam karnā, To go quickly but with respect. سرکرنا sir karnā, To begin. سرکهيجانا

سرا sirā S̱. (from शिरः) s. m. Head, extremity, end.

سرات sirāt S̱. (from शीत) adj. Cold, becoming cold.

سراج sirāj A (Chald. from سرج Heb. To weave, to entangle; to shine) s. m. 1. A candle, a lamp. 2. The sun. ¶ sarrāj (from سرج) s. m. 1. A saddler. 2. A groom.

سرانا sirānā S̱. 1. (from शीत) v. n. To cool. 2. v. a. To make cold, to cool. 3. (r. सृ Go) To set afloat, to float, to set off, to despatch. 4. s. m. (dakh.) Place of the head; see سرهانا sir-hānā.

سرايت sirāyat A s. f. Passing from one thing to another, penetrating, a nightly journey, contagion, infection.

سرجنا sirajnā सर्जन S̱. v. a. To create, to produce, to form.

سرس siris शिरीष S̱. s. m. The name of a tree. (Mimosa sirisa).

سرسينگ sir-sīng S̱. (शिरः Head, and शृंग Horn) adj. Rebellious, mutinous.

سرهانا sir-hānā S̱. s. m. The head part or side of any thing (as, of a tomb or bedstead), the place where the head rests or reclines.

سري sirrī H adj. Mad, insane.
