ناگ नाग nāg S s. m. 1. A snake (Coluber naja) and a sort of demigod shaped as a ser- pent. ناگ بهاشا nāg-bhāsh̤ā, A Prākr̤it lan- guage said to be used by the serpentine race who inhabit Pātāl. ناگ پنچمي nāg-pancha- mī, Name of a Hindū holyday, the 5th of Srāwaṇ, sukl-paksh̤, on which day they worship a snake to procure blessings on their children. ناگ پاس (नागपाश) nāg-pās, or ناگ پهانس nāg-phāṅs, s. f. A running noose of a rope, &c. a sort of noose or knot, used in battle to entangle an enemy. ناگ کنيا nāg-kanyā, A race of females said to inhabit Pātāl, or the regions under the earth, and to be of serpentine extraction but very beautiful. ناگ لوک nāg- lok, The region under the earth, the abode of serpents and hydras, Pātāla.
