ساٴيس sāʼīs A (part. act. of ساس He ruled, go- verned; or, from Heb. A horse) s. m. A groom, a horse-keeper.

سنت sunnat A s. f. (lit. a religious ceremony necessary to be performed; from سنّ To be constantly observing, to follow rule, or from Heb. To repeat, q. d. that which is constantly to be repeated, observed or performed) 1. Circum- cision. سنت کرنا sunnat karnā, v. a. To cir- cumcise. 2. The traditions of Muhammad, ordinance, institute, rite, right way (of life). ¶ sanat (Heb. q. d. the repetition of the same course of the sun, with its concomitant changes) s. f. A year.

سوادهين स्वाधीन स्व Self, and अधीन Dependent swādhīn S. adj. 1. Independent, being oneʼs own master. 2. Absolute, despotick.

ستياناس सत्यानाश सत्या Veracity, sinceri- ty, and नाश Annihilation satyānās S. s. m. (A term of imprecation, signifying) Depravation, destruction. ستياناس جانا يا هونا satyānās-jānā, or -honā, To be the depravation, destruction, ruin, &c. (of any one or any thing), to be de- stroyed or ruined. ستياناس کرنا satyānās karnā, To make the ruin, destruction, or mischief (of any one or any thing).

سنجوگي sanjog-ī S (संयोगी) s. m. An ascetick who does not observe a vow of continence, but has a family.

سيوڙا sewṛā H s. m. A kind of faḳīr among the Hindūs. See سيورا sewrā.

سندس sundus A s. Fine silk cloth, satin or brocade.
