اسلاف aslāf A s. plur. (of سلف) Ancestors.

اسلام islām A (inf. iv. of سلم Heb. and Ch. Was safe, entire, at peace) s. m. The Mu- hammadan religion, orthodoxy (according to Muhammadans), islāmism.

اسلامي islām-ī A s. m. f. A Muhammadan, a believer. (Pers. plur. اسلامیان islāmiyān).

اسلامیه islāmiya A adj. Faithful, orthodox. H. S̱. اسل پسل جانا usal pusal jānā, v. n. To be agitated, to be tossed, to get into confusion.

بدسلا bad-salā S̱. (वराह A hog, and शाला A house) s. m. A hogsty.

تسلا taslā H s. m. A vessel used by Hindūs to dress their victuals.

تسلسل tasalsul A (inf. ii. of سلسله) s. m. 1. Con- necting like a chain, concatenation, association of ideas, infinite series, succession. 2. Flowing (as, of water).

تسلط tasallut̤ A (inf. v. of سلط Heb. He ruled) s. m. Domination, sway, absolute rule.

ديوا سلاي dīwā-salāʼī S̱. (dakh.) A match tipped with sulphur: see ديا سلاٴي under ديا diyā.

ديپ سلاٴي diwe-salāʼī S̱. s. (dakh.) A match (for catching fire).

سلا silā S (शिला) s. f. 1. A stone, a rock. 2. A flat stone on which condi- ments, &c. are ground with a muller. ¶ sillā, adj. (dakh.) Cool: see سيلا sīl-ā. S. سلاجت शिलाज़ित (or शिलाजतु) silājit, s. m. Storax.

سلاح silāḥ A (from سلح Heb. To send forth, to stretch out, to extend the arm for the purpose of attack) s. f. Arms, implements of war, ar- mour. سلاح خانه silāḥ-ḵẖāna, An armoury, arsenal. سلاح دار silāḥ-dār, or سلاح بردار silāḥ- bardār, An armour-bearer. سلاح ساز silāḥ-sāz, An armourer.

سلاخ sallāḵẖ A (from سلخ To skin) s. m. A skinner.
