جک jak यक्ष S̱. s. m. 1. When treasure, &c. is buried, an animal (sometimes a man) is killed and buried with it as a guard. This animal is called jak, and receives orders to allow no one else to take up the treasure, &c. 2. (met.) A miser, called also جک کا گماشته jak kā gu- māshta. H.P. جکڙبند jakaṛ-band, adj. Tight.

جوتي jūtī H s. f. A shoe. جوتي خور jūtī-ḵẖor, adj. Beaten with slippers; mean, abject. جوتي پيزار jūtī-paizār, s. f. Scuffle. جوتي کاري jūtī- kār-ī, s. f. Act of beating with slippers.

جمکنا jamaknā H v. n. To succeed, to go on well, to fit, to be assembled. دوکان جمکي dūkān jamkī, Buyers and sellers are collected in the shop. لڙاٴي جمکي laṛāʼī jamkī, The fight was joined. مجلس جمکي majlis jamkī, The assem- bly is full. مقدمه جمکا muḳaddama jamkā, The cause is begun to be debated.

جـﮩنمي jahannam-ī A adj. Hellish, infernal, be- longing to hell.

جبن jubun A s. m. Pusillanimity.

جيب jaib A s. f. The breast, the heart, the breast collar of a garment. جيب پاره jaib-pāra, adj. Having the collar rent; sad. جيب چاکي jaib-chāk-ī, s. f. Heart-rending.

جواسا jawāsā यवास S̱. s. m. A prickly bush of which ṭaṭṭīs are made. (Hedysarum alhagi).

جهنجهکار jhanjhkār झंकार S̱. s. f. Clinking, tinkling, ringing.

جيوڙي jeʼoṛī H s. f. A string, a cord, a worm.

جدي jadī A s. m. 1. A kid, a he goat. (Heb. ). 2. The sign Capricorn. 3. (or, as the diminu- tive pronounced, judai) The polar star.
