جهاڙي jhāṛī H s. f. Forest, wood, underwood, brushwood, copse, bush, brake, shrub.

جنازه janāza A or jināza, s. m. A bier, a funeral. جنازه روان janāza-rawān (met.) A horse. جنازه کش janāza-kash, Drawer of a bier.

جل جنت जलजन्तु jal-jantu S s. m. An aqua- tick animal (a porpoise, shark, &c.).

جبر jabr A (Heb. Was strong) s. m. Oppres- sion, violence, strength, force, power. جبرسي jabr se, By violence, violently. جبرنقصان jabr- i-nuḳṣān, Making good a deficiency (as, if two horses are to be given to two persons, one to each; if they are not equally good, saddle and bridle are given with the worst). جبرومقابله jabr-o-muḳābala, Algebra.

جوگ jog S s. m. (योग) 1. Junction, fitting. 2. A fortunate moment, opportunity, occasion. 3. Penance, devotion, religious meditation, union with the supreme being by means of abstract contemplation. 4. Certain divisions of a great circle, measured upon the Ecliptick. (See Asiat. Res. Vol. ix. p. 365). 5. (योग्य) adj. Pos- sible, capable, fit. (In compos. it answers to able, worthy, &c.). جوگمايا jog-māyā, s. f. A deceptive power which Jogīs are supposed to possess.

جاريه jāriya A s. f. A maidservant.

جيبير jai-ber यावद्वार S̱. adj. As many times, as often as.

جهومکا jhūmkā H s. m. 1. The bell-shaped pen- dant of an ear-ring. 2. The constellation of the bear. See جهمکا jhumkā.

جهوٿ jhūṭ S̱. (जुष्ट or उच्छिष्ट) adj. False. s. m. Lie, falsehood. جهوٿهـ بولنا jhūṭh bolnā, To lie, to tell a lie, speaking falsehood. جهوٿهـ موٿهـ jhūṭh mūṭh, Lie, lying, falsehood; falsely.

جهنکار झंकार jhankār S s. f. Clinking, tink- ling, ringing, clank, jingle, rattle.
