پرسورام parsūrām परशुराम S̱. n. prop. The sixth Avatār, descent upon earth or incarna- tion of Vish̤ṇu. This personage was the son of Jamadagni. He is, from his father, called Jāmadagni: and, the deity descended in this form to destroy the Kshatriyas (or Chh̤atrīs) who were become tyrannical. Renukā, wife of Jamadagni, was interrupted in bringing water from the river by Kārtavīrjārjuna, a prince of the Kshatriyas, who was sporting in the water with his thousand wives; for which Parasu- rāmaʼs father, Jamadagni, cursed him. The Kshatriya prince killed Jamadagni; and Jāma- dagni vowed not to leave a Kshatriya on the face of the earth. He is reported to have ex- tirpated them twenty one times; the women with child each time producing a new race: and, they say that there have been no Ksha- triyas since; those so called being of spurious breed, or Varṇasankars.

پالک pālak S̱. s. m. 1. (पालंक) A kind of greens (a species of spinach). 2. (पल्यंक) A bedstead. 3. (पालक) Cherisher, protector, keeper. پالک پتر pālak putr (पालकपुत्र) An adopted son.

The belt that passes over a horseʼs breast to prevent the saddleʼs slipping back. پيش بندي pesh-bandī, s. f. Foresight, timely preparation. پيش بين pesh-bīn, adj. Prudent, provident, wise. پيش بيني pesh-bīn-ī, s. f. Foresight, prudence. پيش جانا pesh-jānā, To go forth. پيش خيمه pesh-ḵẖaima, s. m. A tent or other baggage sent on before. پيش دست pesh-dast, adj. Anticipating, being beforehand, surpassing, one who ex- cels; (subst.) deputy, manager or assistant (in office). پيش دستي pesh-dast-ī, s. f. The being or paying beforehand, anticipation, excelling, surpassing, preeminence, excellence, aggression. پيش دستي کرنا pesh-dast-ī karnā, To anticipate, &c. پيش رس pesh-ras, adj. Early (fruit, grain, &c.). پيش رفت pesh-raft, adj. Making im- pression, successful, efficient, effectual (gene- rally applied to words that are attended to).

پاداش pādāsh P s. m. Retaliation, recom- pense, retribution, reward, requital.

پچهياو pachhiyāʼo S̱. (पश्चिमवात see پچهوا) s. f. A westerly wind.
