پنجه panja P s. m. 1. A hand with the five fingers extended, claw, clutch, paw, grasp. 2. A sort of link or torch resembling the five fin- gers, which is also called پنج شاخه panj-shāḵẖa. 3. A hand made of ivory, &c. to scratch the back with. پنجه پهيرنا panja phernā, To over- come, to overpower. پنجه کرنا panja karnā, A kind of wrestling, wherein the antagonists lock their fingers together. پنجه کش panja- kash, 1. s. m. An iron instrument resembling a hand, with which wrestlers exercise themselves by locking their fingers into those of the instru- ment. 2. (A kind of bread) bearing the marks of five fingers.

پن pan S s. m. (पण) 1. Vow, promise, reso- lution. 2. An aggregate number consisting of twenty ganḍās (q. v.) or, eighty kauṛīs: (and sixteen pans make a kāhan). 3. (for पर्ण) contract of پان; as پن بٿا pan-baṭṭā, s. m. A betel box.

پپني papnī H s. f. The eyelash.

پري pare S̱. (from पर) adv. Beyond, yonder, at a distance. پري رهنا pare rahnā, To remain at a distance.

پهٿکي phuṭkī H s. f. A blot, spot, stain. ¶ phaṭ- kī, s. f. 1. A fowlerʼs net. 2. A large cage. 3. A rope tied to a tree to frighten birds with its sound.

پگاه تر pagāh-tar P s. f. Early dawn.

پـﮩل pahal H s. m. 1. A flock of cotton. 2. Beginning, aggression. 3. The side of a rec- tangular figure. ¶ phal (dakh.) Form, figure, &c. see صورت ṣūrat.

پشت pusht P s. f. 1. Back. 2. Progenitors, an- cestry, a generation of progenitors. 3. A prop, a second, an assistant. (Sans. पृष्ठ The back). پشت به پشت pusht-ba-pusht, Generation by generation. پشت پا pusht-i-pā, s. f. The instep. پشت پانو pusht-pāṅw, s. m. The instep, an in- flammation or phlegmon on the upper surface of the foot. پشت قدم pusht-i-ḳadam, The top of the foot, the instep. پشت پرکسي کي رهنا pusht par kisī kī rahnā (lit. To back one) To support steadily. پشت پناه pusht-panāh, An ally, a supporter. پشت خم pusht-ḵẖam, adj. Hump- backed. پشت دست کسي پرمارناياپشت پامارنا pusht-i-dast kisī par mārnā or pusht-i-pā mārnā, To reject, to abandon. پشت دينا pusht denā (lit. To turn oneʼs back) To flee, run away, turn tail.

پتيا pitiyā पितृव्य S. s. m. A paternal uncle, a fatherʼs brother.
