پوپني popnī H s. f. 1. A wind instrument (of musick) made by children, of the seeds of mango and the leaves of the Borassus. 2. Any wind instrument. H.S̱. پوپهٿنا po-phaṭnā (see پوه poh) v. n. To dawn, to be break of day.

پيچش pechish P (from پيچيدن) s. f. 1. Inflection, twisting, contortion, writhing. 2. Trouble, perplexity. 3. Pain in the bowels, tenesmus, gripes. 4. Circumvention, contention.

پسر pisar P (Pers. pusar) s. m. A boy, a son, a child. پسرزاده pisar-zāda, A grandchild. پسرخوانده pisar-ḵẖẉānda, An adopted son. پسرخواندگي pisar-ḵẖẉānda-gī, s. f. Adoption.

پٿکا paṭkā पट्टि S̱. s. m. A cloth worn round the waist, a girdle. زري پٿکا zarī paṭkā, The golden girdle (an ensign conferred by the Pesh- wā on generals who are invested with authority immediately by him). پٿکاباندهنا paṭkā bāndh- nā, To determine on, or prepare for any act. پٿکاپکڙنا paṭkā pakaṛnā, To hinder, to obstruct. H.S̱. پٿکاجانا paṭkā jānā (from پٿکنا) v. n. To fall from oneʼs rank or estimation.

پهراس pharrās S̱. (r. स्फुर Start) s. m. The name of a tree. (Its leaves resemble those of the Cy- press or of the Tamarisk, and make a whistling noise in the wind; whence the name).

پراس parās पलाश S̱. s. m. 1. The name of a tree (Butea frondosa). 2. Oakum made of the bark of that tree.

پلهانا pulhānā प्रोल्लावन S̱. v. a. To persuade.

پٿا paṭā S̱. s. m. 1. (पट्टिश) A foil, a wooden scimitar for cudgelling with. پٿي باز paṭe-bāz, (1.) A fencer, a cudgeller. (2.) (met.) A co- quette, a wanton, a strumpet. پٿاکاٿنا paṭā kāṭ- nā, v. a. To discharge from service. ¶ 2. (पट्ट) A board on which Hindūs sit whilst eating their meals or performing religious cere- monies.
