اعراف aﻌrāf A s. m. Purgatory, a wall inter- vening between heaven and hell.

اياز ayāz T n. prop. Name of the Turkish ser- vant and favourite of Sultān Mahmūd Ghaznavī.

اشراف ashrāf A s. plur. (of شریف) Nobles, grandees, gentlemen, men of high extraction.

اتهان उत्थान ut-thān S s. Effort, rising up, manly exertion, battle, joy. उत्थान एकादशी utthān ekādasī, or देवठान devaṭhān, The eleventh of the sukl paksh̤ of Kārtik, when Vishnu awakes from sleep. (During the four months that he sleeps it is unlawful to marry).

اجوانا ujwānā H v. a. To cause a person to pour from one vessel into another.

اغلب ag̠ẖlab A adj. compar. (of غالب) Supe- riour, stronger. ¶ adv. Most likely.

امریادک अमर्य्यादिक amaryādik S adj. Dis- respected.

اتهوا अथ Now, &c. and वा Or atha-vā S. conj. Or. S. اتي इति (r. इ Go) itī, a particle implying Cause, manifestation, reference, something ad- ditional, conclusion: and may be translated by Thus therefore, lo, behold, et cetera, so says, finis, the end; in which latter sense it is usually written like زیاده چه in Persian and تم in Arabic, at the end of a book, letter, &c.
