بدي bad-ī P (from بد) s. f. Badness, wickedness, evil, ill, mischief, injury, misfortune. S. بديا विद्या (r. विद Know) bidyā or vidyā, s.f. Science, knowledge, intellect.

بلاغت balāg̠ẖat A s. f. 1. Eloquence. 2. Ma- turity.

بهيٿو bheṭū H s. m. A stalk, a stem. See بونٿ.

بروگن birogan वियोगिनी S̱. adj. f. Sepa- rated, distressed from separation.

بيڙا bīṛā S̱. s. m. 1. The same as s̱. بيرا bīrā, q. v. 2. A thong tied to the hilt of a sword by which it is retained in the scabbard, a sword knot. بيڙااٿهانا bīṛā uṭhānā, v. a. To undertake a bu- siness. بيڙاڐالنا bīṛā ḍālnā, To propose a pre- mium for the performance of a task. (These expressions originate in a custom that prevailed of throwing a bīṛā of betel into the midst of an assembly, in token of proposal to any person to undertake some difficult affair then requisite to be performed; and, the person who took up the betel bound himself to perform the business in question).

باڙي bāṛī वाटी S̱. s. f. An enclosed piece of ground, a garden, orchard, kitchen garden; a house with the garden, orchard, &c. attached to it.

بنيان baniyāṅ S̱. s. m. See بنيا baniyā.

بميل bamīl H s. m. The name of a grass.

بيجابرکهنڐ bījābarkhanḍ विजनवरखंड S̱. s. m. A forest.

بي ار bīʼar विवर S̱. s. m. A hole (of a snake, rat, &c.).
