آوشيک आवश्यक āvashyak S s. Necessity. S. اوشده औषध (from ओषधी An annual plant) aush̤adh, s. f. A medicament, a drug, any herb, mineral, &c. used in medicine.

آنڐ ānḍ S̱. or āṅṛ (अण्ड) s. m. A testicle.

آسمان āsmān P (comp. of آس ās, A millstone, and مانند Like) s. m. The sky, the firmament, heaven, the celestial orb. آسمان پر قدم رکهنا āsmān par ḳadam rakhnā, To give oneʼs self airs, to aspire, to be vain. آسمان پر کهینچنا

ابهکت a-bhakt S̱. (अ and भक्ति Service) s. f. Want of desire or faith, disregard, indifference.

اشتغال ishtig̠ẖāl A (inf. viii. of شغل) s. m. Oc- cupation, employment, study, business.

آرامیده ārāmīda P adj. At rest, at ease.

اپلا uplā H s. m. Cakes of dried cow-dung.

اچکانا uchkānā S̱. v. a. To lift or raise up.

استخوان ustuḵẖẉān P (Sans. अस्थि) s. m. A bone, the stone of fruit, &c.

آسرم आश्रम ā-sram S s. m. 1. Abode, resi- dence. 2. A religious order (of which there are four kinds referable to the different periods of life: as, 1st. That of the ब्रह्मचारी brahma- chārī, or student; 2d. That of the गृहस्थ gr̤ihastha, or householder; 3d. That of the वानप्रस्थ vānaprastha, or anchorite: and 4thly. That of the भिक्षु bhiksh̤u, or beggar).
