نوروز nau roz P s. m. New yearʼs day according to the Persian calendar; being that on which the sun enters Aries. This is called عامه or general: and, the sixth of the same month is called خاصه or particular. Both are celebrated by feasts, the liberation of prisoners, &c.

نيلمبر nīl-ambar नीलाम्बर S̱. s. m. A dark blue garment.

نوازي nawāz-ī P s. f. in compos. Soothing, che- rishing, playing.

نٿهڙاٴي niṭhuṛ-āʼī S̱. (निष्ठुरता) s. f. Cruelty, obduracy.

نسنٿهـ nisanṭh H adj. Ill-omened.

ناهن nāhiṅ नहि S̱. adv. Not, no.

نزاده nazāda P or nizāda, See نژاد nizhād.

نرينه nar-īna P A male, masculine.

نک nak S̱. 1. in compos. (for ناک nāk, q. v.) Nose; as, نک گهسني nak-ghisnī, s. Rubbing the nose on the ground in prostration, or by way of humiliation. 2. s. (dakh.) Nail: see نکهـ nakh.

نکل چلنا nikal chalnā S̱. 1. To escape. 2. (met.) To surpass another, to be advanced or pro- moted. 3. To speak much or display oneʼs talent. (Spoken of a person who from the mo- desty of a stranger had formerly been silent).
