نقيض naḳīẓ A (from نقض analog. to Chald. ) 1. adj. Adverse, contrary, opposite. 2. s. m. An enemy.

نگون nigūn P adj. Hanging downwards. نگون بخت nigūn-baḵẖt, Helpless, unfortunate. نگون سار nigūn-sār, adj. Hanging the head from shame, inverted, upside down, topsyturvy.

نندک निंदक nindak S s. m. A calumniator, scorner. adj. Censorious, querulous.

نربسي nir-bis-ī S̱. (निर्विषी from निर् prep. and विष Poison: q. d. antidote) s. f. Ze- doary (a spicy plant somewhat like ginger in its leaves, but of a sweet scent. Amomum ze- doaria: Willd. Curcuma zedoaria: Roxb.).

نمدا namdā P. s. m. Felt, or a coarse woollen cloth formed without weaving, used in coverings for horses or in garments to keep off rain. 2. Membrum virile. نمد پوش namad-posh, Clothed in felt. نمد پوشي namad- posh-ī, s. f. The being clothed in felt, &c. نمد مو namad-mū, adj. Having hair like namad.

نال नाल nāl S s. m. 1. A tube. 2. Barrel, bore or chase of a gun. 3. The navel string. 4. Stalk of the lotus.

نجبا nujabā A s. plur. of نجيب najīb, q. v.

نياي nyāʼe S̱. or niyāʼe (न्याय) s. m. 1. Justice, equity. 2. Reason, argument, disputation, so- phistry, logick. نياي شاستر nyāʼe-shāstr, s. m. Logick. نياي کرنا nyāʼe karnā, To judge, ad- minister justice, decide.

نجس najis A adj. Dirty, impure, filthy, nasty. نجس العين najisu-l-aﻌin, Impure by nature. ¶ najas, Dirtiness, filth, dung.

نقصان nuḳṣān A (from نقص) s. m. Loss, defect, deficiency, detriment, injury, damage, blemish, prejudice, mischief. A. H. نقصاني nuḳṣān-ī, adj. Detrimental, prejudi- cial (Harris).
