مد madd A (Heb. and Aram. ) s. f. 1. Ex- tension, production, lengthening. 2. The flux of the sea, flood-tide. مد وجزر madd-o-jazr, Tide, the flux and reflux of the sea. 3. The mark (~) placed sometimes over alif, thus آ, when the letter is pronounced long and broad. 4. A peculiar mode of writing certain words in accounts. مد ظله madda z̤illu-hu, May his sha- dow, or power be extended. مد نظر madd-i-naz̤ar, or مد نگاه madd-i-nigāh, s. f. 1. Exten- sion or stretch of sight, as far as the eye can reach, the object of sight, regard, prospect, before the eyes, in view, in sight. 2. Kind looks, encouragement. ¶ mudd, A dry mea- sure equal to one and one third rat̤l, or according to others to two rat̤l.
