لال lāl S̱. 1. (r. लल Wish for, or लड Sport) adj. Darling, dear; s. m. An infant boy, a son. 2. (लाला) s. m. Spittle, saliva. 3. s. m. The name of a bird. (The male of Frin- gilla amandava). لال بجهکڙ lāl bujhakkaṛ, An intelligent person; one who comprehends quickly, or who readily divines what has happened or is to happen from certain symptoms; but, the term is generally used ironically for a wise- acre, an ignorant foolish person who pretends to more sense than his neighbours; as, in the following answer given by a person of this de- scription, when consulted respecting the marks of an elephantʼs feet in mire, by people who had never seen such an animal: يـﮩ توبوجهي لال بجهکڙ اورنه بوجهي کوي پاين چکي باندهکرمت هرنا کوداهوي Yih to būjhe lāl bujhakkaṛ aur na būjhe koʼe; pāyan chakkī bāndhkar mat harnā kūdā hoʼe. Lāl Bujhakkaṛ and none else can understand this; may not an antelope with a millstone tied to his feet have bounded here?
