لير līr H s. f. A strip or slip of cloth. S̱. لي رکهنا le-rakhnā, v. a. To provide, to keep ready, to procure, to reserve.

ل lām the twenty-third letter of the Arabic, and twenty-seventh of the Persian alphabet, corres- ponds to ल in Sanskrit. It is one of the eight dental letters in Arabic, and its sound is that of the English l. In the denotation of numbers by the letters of the Arabic alphabet, it stands for 30: and, by way of abbreviation, it may repre- sent the month شوال. Its permutations are, 1. In Persian and Hindūstānī into ر and vice versa; as, زرو zarū for زلو zalū, A leech; بار for بال Hair; ديوال for ديوار A wall; تلوار for تروار A sword. 2. In Arabic, in

لپکا lapkā H s. m. 1. A snatch. 2. Nimbleness. 3. A bad custom or habit. Mīr says: اپني توجـﮩان آنکهـ لڙي پهر وهين ديکهو آينه کو لپکا هي پريشان نظري کا Upnī to jahāṅ ānkh laṛī phir wahīṅ dekho; āʼīne ko lapkā hai pareshān-naz̤arī kā. Where I first fell in love, there you will see me; (I am not like) the mirror (which) is in the habit of casting its glances in all directions.

لڙهکنا luṛhaknā S̱. (लुठन or लोठन r. लुठ Roll about) v. n. To roll, to be spilt. لڙه جانا luṛh jānā, To die.
