ابرار abrār A s. plur. (from برّ Heb. and Ch. To polish, purify, select) Just, holy, pious men, dutiful (to parents).

اڙانا aṛānā H (caus. of اڙنا aṛnā, q. v.) v. a. 1. To make to stop. 2. To fasten one thing to another. 3. s. m. Name of a tune.

اشرفي ashrafī P s. f. A gold coin so called. (The Calcutta ashrafī is worth ₤1. 11s. 8d. and the gold of it is better than English standard gold by five shillings in the ounce, or about 1/16. By the regulations of May 1793, it should weigh 190.894 grains troy).

آرایش ārāʼịsh P s. f. Ornament, embellishment, preparation, dressing, equipage.

اجي ajī H An interjection to call or bespeak at- tention. (In Bengal, it is used to an inferiour or in cases of great intimacy only; but, in the western provinces, it is often addressed to a su- periour as a term of respect). Holla! Good sir! Hear me, sir!

آربل ārbal आयुर्बल S̱. s. f. Age.

آتش افگن ātash-afgan P adj. Throwing fire.

ادهکانا adhikānā S̱. (from ادهک अधिक) v. a. To augment, to increase.

اگنا ugnā S̱. (उत् and r. गम Go) v. n. To grow, to be produced, to spring (as plants), to rise (as the moon). اگتي هي جل جانا ugte hī jal jānā, To be withered immediately on springing up (is applied to a hope or expecta- tion which is blasted in the bud).
