قاري ḳārī A (part. act. of قرأ Heb. To read) s. m. A reader, especially of the ḳurʼān. (plur. قاريين ḳāriyīn).

ققنس ḳuḳnus P s. m. The phenix, a fabulous bird.

قـﮩقـﮩ‍ا ḳahḳahā A. s. m. Loud laughter, horse- laugh. قـﮩقـﮩ‍ا کرنا ḳahḳahā karnā, or قـﮩقـﮩ‍ه مارنا ḳahḳaha mārnā, To laugh heartily, to giggle.

قفا ḳafā A s. f. The back of the head, occiput, nape of the neck; behind, after.

قلفي ḳulf-ī A. (corrupt. for قفلي ḳufl-ī, Shut or locked) s. f. 1. A small ḥuḳḳa snake. 2. A cup with a cover (peculiarly, in which ice is moulded).

ق ḳāf called قاف قرشت the twenty-first letter of the Arabic alphabet, does not occur in pure Persian, and has no analogous letter in Sans- krit. Its sound differs from that of ک or the

قوت ḳūt A s. f. m. Food, aliment, livelihood, subsistence, victuals. ¶ ḳūwat (from قوي) s. f. Power, virtue, authority, faculty, strength, vi- gour. قوت آخذه ḳūwāt-i-āḵẖiẕa, Strength of mind. قوت باصره ḳūwat-i-bāṣira, Sight. قوت باه ḳūwat-i-bāh, Lust. قوت جاذبه ḳūwat-i-jāẕi-

قايل ḳāʼịl A part. act. (of قول) 1. Saying, sayer, assertor; confessing, confessor, consenting, agreeing, acknowledging, giving up a point, owning. 2. adj. Subdued, confuted. قايل کرنا ḳaʼịl karnā, To confute, to convince, to convict. قايل هونا ḳaʼịl honā, To acquiesce, acknowledge, confess, consent, assent, to own, yield. (Plur. قاٴيلين ḳāʼịlīn).

قصب ḳaṣab A s. 1. A reed, pen or any thing hollow like a reed, as a bone or a metal tube. 2. A sort of fine linen. قصب پوشي ḳaṣab- posh-ī, s. f. The wearing or being dressed in fine linen.

قتل ḳatl A (Heb. ) s. m. Slaughter, killing, homicide, murder, assassination. قتل عام ḳatl-i-āﻌmm, A general massacre. قتل کرنا ḳatl karnā, To kill, to murder, execute. قتل گاه يا گـﮩ‍ہ ḳatl- gāh or -gah, Place of murder. قنل هونا ḳatl- honā, To be killed.
