قدس ḳuds A (Heb. ) 1. s. m. Holiness, sanctity. 2. Jerusalem. 3. The angel Gabriel. 4. adj. Holy, pure.

قاف ḳāf A (from قوف To trace oneʼs footsteps, or rather Heb. and Chald. To revolve or go round) s. m. A fabulous mountain, supposed to surround the world, and bound the horizon. It rests on the stone Sakhrat, an entire emerald, which covers the azure colour of the sky. 2. Mount Caucasus.

قطره ḳat̤ra A s. m. A drop (plur. قطرات). قطره زن ḳat̤ra-zan, or قطره زنان ḳat̤ra-zanān, adj. Drop-striking; cantering, going quick on the road, running hard.

قبول ḳabūl A or ḳubūl (from قبل) 1. s. m. Con- sent, favourable reception, concession, approba- tion, assent. 2. adj. Accepted, approved, consented, agreed. قبول صورت ḳabūl-ṣūrat, Handsome. قبول صورتي ḳabūl-ṣūrat-ī, s. f. Handsomeness. قبول کرنا ḳabūl karnā, To accept, receive, take, assent, allow, confess, consent, deign, agree to, own, promise. قبول هونا ḳabūl honā, To be accepted, agreed to, &c. A. H. قبولنا ḳabūl-nā, v. a. To agree, consent, as- sent, accept, approve, make choice of.

قوتي ḳūtī H. (Panj. कुत्ती) s. f. A box.

قاعده ḳāʼiﻌda A (from قعد) s. m. 1. Basis; (hence) 2. Rule, custom, institute, system, institution, manners. 3. The rules of grammar.

قزل باشي ḳazal-bāshī T (comp. of t. قزل ḳizil, Red, and باش The head) s. m. A kind of Mug̠ẖal soldier. The ḳazal-bāshīs are consi- dered to be the descendants of the captives given to Shaikh Haidar by Tamerlane. They wore the red caps assumed by those captives as a mark of distinction, and are considered as the best troops of the Persian armies.

قليه ḳaliya A (from قلا Heb. To roast or broil) s. m. The name of a dish; also, a kind of soap- ashes.

قحط ḳaḥt̤ A s. m. Famine, dearth. قحط زده ḳaḥt̤-zada, adj. Overwhelmed with dearth, fa- mished. قحط سالي ḳaḥt̤-sāl-ī, s. f. Famine, dearth.

قرار ḳarār A (from قرّ Heb. To rest, to cool) s. m. 1. Rest, residence, tranquillity, quietness. 2. Firmness, stability. 3. Ratification, agree- ment, engagement. 4. Waiting, patience. قرار داد ḳarār-dād, An engagement, contract, agree- ment. قراردينا ḳarār denā, To fix, to establish. قرارواقعي ḳarār-wāḳiʼīﻌ, adv. Effectively, effec- tually, efficaciously, truly.
