فتويٰ fatwạ̄ A (from فتو) s. m. A judicial decree, judgment, sentence, award, decision.

فرهاد farhād P n. prop. Name of a celebrated Persian statuary, who to please his mistress Shīrīn dug through an immense mountain.

فصيل faṣīl A (vulg. safīl, from فصل) s. f. Breast- work, parapet, intrenchment.

فصل faṣl A s. f. 1. Separation, division, a sec- tion, article, clause, chapter. 2. Time, season, crop, harvest. (Plur. فصول fuṣūl).

فاقه fāḳa A (from فوق Heb. ) s. m. 1. Po- verty, necessity, want. 2. (Pers. and in Hindī) A fast, fasting (from want, not as a religious duty). فاقه کرنا fāḳa karnā, To fast. فاقه کش fāḳa-kash, One who fasts, a faster, famished. فاقه کشي fāḳa-kash-ī, s. f. Fasting, endurance of hunger. فاقه کهـينچنا fāḳa khainchnā, or فاقون مرنا fāḳoṅ marnā, v. n. To starve, to be famished, to die with hunger. فاقه مست fāḳa- mast, One who is starving but conceals his distress.
