عادل āﻌdil A (part. act. of عدل) adj. Just.

عمل aﻌmal A (Heb. ) s. m. Action, act, opera- tion, work, practice, effect, rule, sway, jurisdic- tion. عملدار aﻌmal-dār, s. m. 1. One who has command. 2. A collector. عمل داري aﻌmal dār-ī, s. f. Collectorship, government. عمل کرنا aﻌmal-karnā, To act, operate, proceed.

عبير aﻌbīr A s. m. Saffron, ambergris, powder of various colours used in the هولي holī.

عسس aﻌsas A s. m. The night-watch or guards.

عاقبت āﻌkibat A (from عقب Heb. ) s. f. 1. The end, conclusion, futurity, future state. 2 Success. 3. adv. Finally, at the end, at last, after all. عاقبت انديش āﻌḳibat-andesh, Pro- vident, prescient, considerate, discreet, looking into futurity. عاقبت اند يشي āﻌḳibat-andesh-ī, s. f. Foresight, regard to the issue, end, conse- quence or future.

عيار aﻌyār A or iﻌyār (from عير) s. m. A mark, proof. test, standard, assay, touch. ¶ aﻌiyār (adj. superl. of عير) or عيارا aﻌiyārā, adj. Cunning, sly, shrewd, artful. s. m. A knave. A. H. عيارپن aﻌiyār-pan, s. m. Knavery, cunning, slyness. A. P. عيارگي aﻌiyār-gī, s. f. Cunning, slyness.

عاطر āﻌt̤ir A (part. act. of عطر) adj. Odoriferous, benevolent, generous, noble.

عشق iﻌshḳ A s. m. Love. عشقباز iﻌshḳ-bāz, A gallant, amorous. عشقبازي iﻌshḳ-bāz-ī, s. f. Gal- lantry, amour, amorousness. عشق پيچا iﻌshḳ- pechā, s. m. The name of a flower (Ipomœa quamoclit) American jasmine. عشق پيشه iﻌshḳ- pesha, Love-practiser, lover. عشق هي iﻌshḳ hai, an exclamation of praise; excellent! well done! praise to! Mīr says:-- عشق انکي عقل کو هي جو ما سواهماري ناچيز جانتي هين نابود جانتي هين iﻌshḳ unkī aﻌḳl ko hai, jo mā siwā hamāre nāchīz jānte haiṅ, nābūd jānte haiṅ, Excellent is their understanding who esteem every thing besides me worthless and null.
