عراق iﻌrāḳ A n. prop. A territory which is divided into two portions; عراق عرب iﻌrāḳ-i-aﻌrab, The ancient Babylonia or Chaldea; and عراق عجم iﻌrāḳ-i-aﻌjam, comprehending Media. عراقان or عراقين The two cities of Basra and Kūfa.

علوم uﻌlūm A s. plur. (of علم iﻌlm) Sciences.

عاصي āﻌṣī A (part. act. of عصي) 1. adj. Disobe- dient, criminal, rebellious. 2. s. m. and f. A rebel, a sinner.

عيش aﻌish A s. m. Pleasure, delight. عيش گاه aﻌish-gāh, s. f. Place of merriment. عيش محل aﻌish-maḥall, Banqueting-house.

عالم āﻌlam A (Heb. ) s. m. The world, the universe, time, regions, state, beauty. عالم آرا āﻌlam-ārā, World-adorning. عالم بالا يا علوي āﻌlam-i-bālā or -uﻌlvī, The heavens, the people of the heavens. عالم تاب āﻌlam-tāb, World-illumi- nating or world-warming. عالم سفلي āﻌlam-i-suflī, The earth. عالم گير āﻌlam-gīr, Conquering the world. (Arab. plur. inflect. عالمين).

عالميان āﻌlam-iyān A. s. m. People, men, inha- bitants of the world.

عمده uﻌmda A (from عمد) 1. adj. Great, noble. 2. s. m. A grandee, a support, a pillar, a prop, confidence, reliance, trust.

عيدي īﻌd-ī A adj. (used substantively) A present which it is usual to make on the day of īﻌd, an Easter gift.

عباسي aﻌbbās-ī A adj. Red (colour). s. f. Name of a flower. See عباس aﻌbbās or گل عباس gul- i-aﻌbbās under گل gul.

عاق āﻌḳḳ A part. act. (of عقّ) Disobedient, re- bellious.
