عسکر aﻌskar A (from Pers. لشکر) s. m. An army, force, troop. (Plur. عساکر). A. P. عسکري aﻌskar-ī, adj. Relating to the army, military; s. m. A soldier.

عمر uﻌmr A s. f. Age, lifetime, period of life. ¶ uﻌmar, n. prop. The name of the second sove- reign in succession from Muḥammad.

عبري iﻌbrī A (Heb. ) adj. Hebrew.

عنقا aﻌnḳā (lit. A Long-necked, from عنق Heb. The neck, a collar) s. m. 1. The phœnix, a fabulous bird. 2. (met.) adj. Rare, wonderful, curious. See سيمرغ sī-murg̠ẖ.

عـﮩد aﻌhd A s. m. f. 1. Contract, compact, obli- gation, promise, treaty. 2. Time, season, conjuncture. عـﮩد شکن aﻌhd-shikan, Promise-break- er, faithless to oneʼs word or engagement. عـﮩد شکني aﻌhd-shikan-ī, s. f. Promise-breaking, breach of faith. عـﮩد کرنا aﻌhd karnā, To pro- mise, to vow. عـﮩد و پيمان کرنا aﻌhd o paimān karnā, To covenant, to bargain. عـﮩد نامه aﻌhd- nāma, A contract, an agreement in writing, char- ter, articles of peace, &c.

عجب aﻌjab A (Heb. ) s. m. Wonder, admi- ration, astonishment; adj. Wonderful, astonishing, amazing, miraculous, rare, strange, droll, &c. ¶ uﻌjb, s. m. Pride, haughtiness. عجب کرنا aﻌjab karnā, To be astonished, to wonder.

عيش aﻌish A s. m. Pleasure, delight. عيش گاه aﻌish-gāh, s. f. Place of merriment. عيش محل aﻌish-maḥall, Banqueting-house.

عدو aﻌdū A (from عدا Heb. To pass, to trans- gress, to plunder) s. m. An enemy.

عقرقرحا aﻌḳarḳarḥā A. s. m. The name of a medi- cine. See عاقرقرحا.

عبث aﻌbas̤ A 1. adj. Vain, idle, absurd, trifling, profitless. 2. adv. In vain, idly, absurdly, uselessly. 3. subst. Vanity, absurdity.
