صفاٴي ṣafā-ī A. s. f. Purity, cleanness, clearness, perspicuity. صفاٴي بتاني ṣafā-ī batānī, To reject a petition without ceremony, to refuse flatly. صفاٴي کرنا ṣafā-i karnā, To make clean work of it, to accomplish fully.

صادق ṣādiḳ A (part. act. of صدق Heb. To be, or be esteemed, just) adj. True, just, sincere. صادق القول ṣādiḳu-l-ḳaul, Speaking truth. A.P. صادقي ṣādiḳ-ī, s. f. Sincerity, truth.

صغريٰ ṣug̠ẖrạ̄ A (fem. of اصغر) 1. adj. Less, least. 2. s. m. The minor term of a syllogism.

صدا ṣadā A s. f. Sound, tone, echo, voice, noise.

صلاحيت ṣalāḥiyat A (from صلح) s. f. Virtue, chastity, integrity, goodness, probity, sanctity.

صنم ṣanam A (Heb. ) s. m. l. An idol. 2. A mistress, lover, sweetheart. 3. The name of a game among children: one says, صنم آي ṣanam āʼe, The idol or sweetheart is come; and asks whence? in which dress is she clothed? what does she eat? &c. With whatever letter the answer to the first question begins, those to the others must begin with the same; otherwise, the person failing is condemned, by way of pe- nalty, to imitate the voice of some animal, as a cock or ass, &c.

صليب ṣalīb A (from صلب) 1. adj. Hard. 2. Three-cornered. 3. s. m. A crucifix, a cross.

صبوحي ṣabūḥ-ī A. s. f. A bottle for holding wine; the morning draught of wine. صبوحي کش ṣa- būḥī-kash, A drinker of the morning draught.
