شبگير shab-gīr P 1. s. m. A cricket. 2. A nightingale, or any animal that sings at night. 3. A servant that works or travels in the night- time. 4. Early dawn. 5. Nightly march, nocturnal invasion. 6. part. Travelling by night (a caravan or traveller).

شيت शीत shīt S s. f. Cold, coldness.

شيب shaib A s. m. Greyness, hoariness.

شکنجه shikanja P s. m. 1. Stocks (for the legs). 2. Boards in which binders press books. 3. A press. 4. Rack, torment, torture.

شبکور shab-kor P adj. Night-blind.

شق shaḳḳ A (Heb. To run about) s. m. 1. Trouble, labour, suspense. 2. Dawn of day. 3. A fissure, crack, rent, cleft. شق القمر shaḳḳu-l-ḳamar, Splitting of the moon. شق هونا shaḳḳ honā, To be torn, to be split, rent, &c. ¶ shiḳḳ, s. f. The half of a thing, the side of a mountain, a brother, a friend, difficulty.

شوريت shoriyat P. s. f. Saline quality.

شرع sharﻌ A s. m. 1. The precepts of Muḥammad, law, equity. 2. A high road.

شيرني shīrnī P. (corrupt. of شيريني) s. f. Sweet- meats, &c. offered in memory of saints, &c.

شلخ shalḵẖ A s. f. 1. A round (of musketry, &c.), a discharge, a volley. 2. Sperma viri. 3. Vulva.
