شافه shāffa A (part. act. f. from شفّ To be fine, or thin, to extenuate, to pinch as cold: Chald. To scrape, to rub, to plaster, to polish) s. m. A bougie, a pessary, a suppository.

شريک sharīk A (from شرک) s. m. 1. A partner, associate, accomplice, comrade, ally. شريک هونا sharīk honā, To partake, participate. 2. A friend.

شيب shaib A s. m. Greyness, hoariness.

شہرت shuhrat A (from شہر To publish) s. f. 1. Renown, fame, celebrity. 2. Divulging, report, rumour, celebrating.

شہنا shahnā P s. f. A musical wind instrument, a pipe, a clarion.

شايع shāʼịﻌ A part. act. (of شيع Heb. To exclaim) 1. Divulged, published, diffused, no- torious. 2. Distressed.

شق shaḳḳ A (Heb. To run about) s. m. 1. Trouble, labour, suspense. 2. Dawn of day. 3. A fissure, crack, rent, cleft. شق القمر shaḳḳu-l-ḳamar, Splitting of the moon. شق هونا shaḳḳ honā, To be torn, to be split, rent, &c. ¶ shiḳḳ, s. f. The half of a thing, the side of a mountain, a brother, a friend, difficulty.

شوميت shūm-iyat A s. f. Stinginess, niggardliness.
